Health Tip: Show your gut some love!

Did you know that 80% of your immune system is located in your stomach? So taking good care of your gut is important for your overall health. If your digestive system is unhealthy then there’s a good chance your immune system will be suppressed. If you have kids, now that they’re back in school, they’ll likely be sharing more than just welcome back hugs with their friends. Germs are bound to make their way home, so it’s especially important to optimize our immune system. What can you do to protect your gut and your immune system? For starters, you want to increase the amount of good bacteria in your stomach by eating fermented foods or taking a high-quality probiotic. Stay away from highly processed foods and sugar since they provide more of the bad bacteria and less of the good kind. Also, minimize your exposure to stress, pollution and antibiotics, if possible, which can further upset the balance of good and bad bacteria in your gut.
