Trouble Sleeping?

With the recent time change, I am reminded that everyone has trouble falling asleep sometimes. This is normal. Insomnia may be having trouble falling asleep, staying asleep or not having refreshing sleep. When insomnia becomes a frequent problem there may be several causes.

Heavy Vaginal Bleeding. What’s Going On?

Abnormal vaginal bleeding is a flow of blood from the vagina that occurs either at the wrong time during the month or in inappropriate amounts. In order to determine whether bleeding is abnormal, and its cause, the doctor must consider three questions: Are you pregnant? What is the pattern of your bleeding? Are you ovulating regularly or not.

Health Tip: Exercise in small bursts

Exercise in small bursts: A common misconception is that you need to exercise for at least 30 consecutive minutes to get any health benefit. But the truth is, you can get all the health benefits you need from moderate exercise by performing it in little chunks. If you don’t have a solid block of 30 minutes, try breaking your activity up into 10-minute bursts at different times during the day. Do 10 minutes now, 10 more minutes a few hours from now, and 10 minutes later on. As long as it all adds up to at least 30 minutes of moderate activity a day, that’s what counts!

PMS, Your Treatment Options

Before we talk about your options for getting relief from Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS), let’s review what PMS is.

What is the difference between a yeast infection and BV?

The vagina is populated by certain organisms we call “normal flora”. This normal flora consists of yeasts and a number of different types of bacteria that are always present and normally in balance.

One type of vaginal bacteria consists of Lactobacillus species that do not cause symptoms and are considered the “good bacteria”. We want plenty of these in the healthy vagina. These are the bacteria that are present in yogurt that we call “probiotic bacteria”. They are available in various probiotic supplements.

PT Tip: Back Pain During & After Pregnancy

Sponsored by: North Sound Physical Therapy

Back pain during and after pregnancy is common, but it is not normal if persistent. Back pain post-partum has been linked to pelvic floor problems, such as urine leaking. Begin exercising the pelvic floor muscles immediately after childbirth can help recover from the delivery easier.

New Birth Control Options!

Sometimes it seems they’ll never come up with anything new in birth control. But the past couple of years have brought about some new options. Just this year there have been at least 2 new pills released that really are different. Then there’s Implanon, the new implant that goes under your skin in your inner arm, where no one will see it. And let’s not forget Essure, the first permanent birth control that can be administered in the office.
